It’s been all over the news. Rush Limbaugh announced to the world that he is, “For the first time in my life, ashamed of my country.”
My goodness. With all the backlash you would have thought Armageddon had started. Now, everyone knows Rush has been known for saying some outlandish things, and as much as people want to find fault with Rush, he’s mostly right.
Truth be told, I think Rush speaks for many Americans. We are not, the land of the free, home of the brave anymore. No, we are the land of the government giving us free things. We can have cell phones, and then when they lie, cheat, and steal from us we think it’s no big deal.
For as long as I can remember, we have seen politicians tell us year after year that they are going to throw grandma over the cliff… oh yeah, and our government thinks we are dumb enough to believe it.
So why are people so in arms about what Rush said? He told the truth. We all know it, but most of us choose to sweep it under the rug and move on. After all, we got our cell phones. Yippee.
But maybe we got this wrong. We know we have a corrupt government. That hasn’t changed. Politicians want nothing more than to stay in power. They will lie, beg, borrow, and steal to stay there and it doesn’t matter what side of the aisle they are on.
But America is what we have made it, so the blame shouldn’t start there. Abraham Lincoln said, “The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.”
That’s a pretty powerful statement. It’s a shame nobody listened. Instead of maintaining a standard, the key word of the day became compromise.
The fault of the failure of our nation falls on the steps of the church. When the church began to compromise it all began to fall apart.
The church sat idly by while the Word of God was taken out of schools. Then we decided to stand by while prayer was taken away.
All because we acknowledged our dependence upon God.
We took God out of the equation, then thought it was a great idea to let abortion happen. Can anyone see how the mess we are now it got started? It was a better idea to tell God to take a hike than to trust him and continue to receive his blessings.
So maybe we shouldn’t be ashamed of our country, maybe we should be ashamed of the church. It wasn’t enough that we compromised with the government, we decided to change the church as well.
Yep, churches no longer preached about the blood. The saving blood of Jesus was no longer relevant. I’m sorry… “WHAT!” How is the blood no longer relevant?
But it gets better. Churches who preach about the blood of Jesus are the outcasts. They are no longer welcome in church circles.
So instead of convicting people of sin, the church tells us that God wants to prosper us. That we will not have problems. It’s all about peace and joy.
Isn’t it kind of funny… Jesus said that if they persecuted him, they will persecute us also. So if we are not getting persecuted for believing in Jesus, are we Christians to begin with?
Don’t send me letters… I’m not judging anyone.
But wait, there is more… We changed our bibles to say what we wanted them to say so that if the bible backed up what we preached in the pulpit, God said it was okay.
The publishers of the bible of the month clubs push out phony bibles just as fast as they can print them.
No wonder people are confused. No wonder America is the way it is.
Psalm 11:3 says, “If the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do.”
The foundations of this nation have been uprooted. Instead of being built on a firm foundation. It’s been destroyed and rebuilt on sand.
The fault of this nation is the responsibility of the church. The church turned its back on God and now, we are living with the consequences of our actions.
But now the real question is, is there any hope for America?
My answer, is no.
But wait, you say. What about 2nd Chronicles 7:14?
What about it? There is a condition there that we will not do. God said that if my people “Will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways…”
When was the last time you actually did this?
If we are not going to do what God asks of us, then why should God do anything for us?
We are on a crash course with a day of judgment all because we no longer want anything to do with God.
We barely give God lip service. We don’t seek his face, and we love our wicked ways.
So who is to blame? Let’s start with the church.
Hey, I have an idea… how about we actually do what God said to—humble ourselves and pray, seek his face, and turn from our wicked ways.
There is still time to change… so let’s do it while we still have the time to do so.
