Last week I wrote an article titled “ Let Your Life Be Your Sermon.” In it I challenge people to be bold and get out there and start contending for the faith.
In this I asked “How many people… no, how many family members do you know that do not know the Lord?”
Now, what are you doing about it?
How many times have you boldly shared the gospel with these people, I mean REALLY shared?
How many times have you gotten in their face and exposed and questioned their sins?
How many of you have asked if they have repented of those sins?
How many of you have asked “Where are you going to spend eternity and how do you know?”
Uncle Bob likes to cheat on his wife, when was the last time you got in his face and called him an adulterer and that he needs to repent of his sin and get right with God?
Your brother or sister is a partier who drinks and does drugs. When did you get in their face and tell them that the life they are leading is a path to Hell? Have you taken the time to share repentance with them and help them get right with God?
Or here is a different angle. What about your neighbor next door, you know they are having a hard time financially and you hear them arguing about groceries, bills and the mortgage. When was the last time you went over and shared a dozen eggs, a bag of rice, maybe a freshly baked cake and just let them know they are not alone?
Don’t you think they would really love to hear about the hope and peace that Our Lord provides in these hard times? Just letting them know that you care can make a world of difference.
We Have A Chance
Folks, no matter where we are on God’s timeline, we have a chance right here, right now to make a difference.
But we have to have the courage to stand up and step out.
We have become so selfish and have turned inward. We need to reverse that and look around at who is hurting and how we can maybe offer some word of encouragement.
Here is some wisdom, “The best sermons are lived, not preached.”
My question to you is what kind of “sermon” is your life preaching?
Do you see what I am saying here?
But Ray, I Am Afraid, I Am Not Like You
Uhhh What? (Picking my jaw up off the floor)
What did you say?
What do you mean you are not like me?
Listen, I am nothing special. I am your average every day Joe who puts on his pants one leg at a time just like everyone else.
What do you mean that you are afraid?
Don’t you know that I am afraid also?
I am going to be frank, if you are afraid of getting on someone’s face about the Gospel, then you are spiritually starving.
Here I am now in your face. You are not spending time in God’s Word. That’s a fact Jack!
See, if you were spending quality time in God’s Word, you would have the boldness to get in people’s face. The very same people that you claim that you really care for.
That is what God’s Word does, it empowers you to stand and contend for the faith.
This is why I am such a King James Bible person, the KJV convicts like no other. There is power in the words of the KJV that you just don’t get with all these other modern versions.
You want some truth?
You want some boldness?
You want some fortitude?
You got to get into God’s Word and spend time in it. The reason you do not have the boldness or fortitude is that you are spiritually starved.
Listen, we eat food daily to keep our bodies alive and remain strong.
Our spirit needs daily intake of spiritual food, His Word, so that it can remain strong as well.
IF you are going to church once a week and spending 15 minutes listening to some sermon and that is all the spiritual intake you are receiving, well no wonder you are a spiritual weakling and don’t have the boldness or fortitude.
You need spiritual strength, here are some verses to get you going.
Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he [it is] that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Deuteronomy 20:4 – For the LORD your God [is] he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
I can do all things… Be Strong … God will fight for us.
These are great encouraging verses, these are scriptures of promise. But because you are not spending time with God’s Word, you do not know these and they do not empower you.
One of my most favorite verses is Ephesians 6:13
Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
This is a great verse and speaks to me in so many different ways. But one of the main things that I point out when sharing this verse are the words.. “And Having Done All.”
See, a lot of people just jump over those words or really do not pay attention to them at all. Believe it or not, they are the key to this verse.
In the context of this, Paul is talking about the warrior and his training. See, there are so many people out there that think they can just dawn God’s armor and then go out into the fight. You have to practice the fight, wear the armor daily, train with the different pieces of armor so you know how to use them effectively. If you do not train, you will not be able to stand when the battle comes.
If you have not done all, you will not stand.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:1 – 2 are also some of my favorite “go to” verses.
You want to be bold, you want to be strong? You become these things by “renewing” your mind. How do you renew your mind?
We do that by being in His Word.
His word is your sword and the way you sharpen your sword is training with it daily.
You are weak minded because you do not train daily with your sword. In other words, you are weak minded because you do not read God’s Word.
Hey, inside info here, I am the same way. If I do not get into God’s Word I become complacent, I am not as bold and there are days where I just do not feel like pushing forward.
So take it from me, I personally know that when you do not read God’s Word, then yes, your boldness and strength are not there. They are not there because you are not confident in your sword you are wielding.
So it is easier to just skip the battle or skip the confrontation and make a bunch of pitiful excuses to yourself and to God.
All the while, that person that you “love” and “care” for will continue on the path to Hell because you did not have the fortitude to do the right thing. You have no fortitude because you are weak minded. You are weak minded because you are not in God’s Word.
FOLKS… It is God’s Word that gives us power to fight these spiritual battles.
You did not have the fortitude to share the gospel because the enemy is kicking you down. If you were in His Word, you would have the strength to persevere and to be bold.
How many friends and family do you love and care for that do not know Jesus as their personal savior?
Do you know that you owe a debt to tell them that they are on the path to hell and that they need to repent of their sins and get right with God?
What debt is that you say?
The debt that Christ died a horrible death, suffered, tortured, bled and then was crucified for yours and my sins.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
We owe God our service to Him, because His Son died on the cross for us.
And don’t get all uppity saying that I am saying you need to earn your salvation. No that is not what I am saying. What I am saying is that once you are born again, you now have a responsibility to God to share the hope that is within you. ( 1 Peter 3:15)
Here is a little trivia for you also and why I love the KJV.
See, the Authorized King James Bible is the only bible that states your responsibility to God as “Your Reasonable Service.”
All the other modern versions make it …
- your spiritual service
- spiritual worship
- the logical “Temple worship” for you.
- the most sensible way to serve God
- your intelligent service.
- it is only right that you should worship him in this way
I can go on, but I think you get the idea. All these modern versions give you a way to “cop out” from you serving God and your responsibility to Him as a born again Christian.
Like it or not, we have a personal responsibility to God once we are born again. Our responsivity is to live a holy and acceptable life unto Him. He is our king and we are His subjects. He died for us, our lives for Him.
So what are you going to do about all those people who you so call “love.” Are you going to be bold and be really loving and get in their face and let them know they are on the highway to hell? Will you be bold and loving enough to tell them that they need to get their lives right with the Lord? Will you tell them that they need to repent of their horrible sins and turn to a loving God who wants to share eternity with them?
Or will you cower away and save it for another time?
Do you realize the regret that you will face?
Folks, we are living in the last days of the last days. But it sickens me that so many so called men and women of God are doing nothing.
They preach about how time is short, but do they live it?
They talk about how Christ can return tomorrow, but they are more concerned about their pet theory being right, or selling their latest book or DVD .
All the while so many people don’t know Christ and on the path to hell.
When was the last time you went to a Bible Prophecy conference and the speaker stopped their talk and gave the hard core gospel instead?
When was the last time one of these speakers stopped everything and held an honest to goodness alter call?
In all the conferences I have attended or have spoken at, not once have I heard this sort of thing taking place.
One would think that a conference that is basically focusing on the “end of the world” someone would stop everything and present the hard core gospel and then have an alter call.
But they don’t because it isn’t in the time schedule.
Kind of ironic don’t you think?
We need men and women of God who have courage again.
We need men and women to have the boldness and fortitude to get in the sinners face and truly love them enough to tell them that they are going to die and burn in hell because they do not know Jesus Christ as their personal savior.
We need to get back into God’s Word again and start boning up and training.
We need to let His Word strengthen us again so that we have that fortitude, that courage, that damn the torpedoes zeal that all of us once had, but we have no more because we are not in God’s Word.
