The headline “U.S. faces higher food price inflation in 2014” is big news.
In fact, it is HUGE news.
Well over the years, at least with this current administration, the feds have been doing everything in their power to skew the numbers, change the numbers and even lie about the numbers.
Well the masses are waking up and realizing this.
The government has been hiding the fact that inflation is here and it is worse than they have been letting on.
For the past couple of years we have been hearing how wonderful the economy is doing and that inflation is at all-time lows.
You know why they are at all-time lows? The feds decided that they did not need to count food and energy in the reports, so they just left those little pieces of information out.
I mean who really uses food and energy in the first place right?
Well yesterday, May 24th 2014 the feds officially announced that due to the severe drought, the lack of crops being planted and harvested over the years, and other indicators that I have been warning you about, these facts are starting to take hold so prices are going to go up drastically.
For years the feds have been hiding this fact, industry has been helping them by keeping prices low.
Here is the news flash – The Flood Gates Have Been Opened.
What does this mean?
It means that industry now has a scape goat. They do not have to keep prices low because the government has announced that prices will go up.
Do you get what I am saying here?
Point One, there is no food. There is minimal to no harvests here in the US.
Point Two, I have been warning about a June/July food shortage. Food coming into the US south of the equator is starting to taper off. Just look at what we are now buying. Grainy, dry, soft, bruised yucky fruits and veggies.
South of the equator is entering into winter. Soon they will not be shipping food to us anymore.
Point Three, back in the late fall 2013 there was a freak snowstorm that killed close to 300,000+ cattle. This is a major hit to the cattle market.
I know in Texas where they still have a 5 year drought they are dealing with, they are having to ship grass bails in from Colorado, Utah and other parts of the country just to feed the cattle. Ranchers are sending their female cattle to the slaughter houses becasue they cannot afford to feed them anymore. It is the females that help re-stock the herd. SO if you are slaughtering your females, your herd does not grow. It is expected that the US will not see cattle herd growth returning until 2017, maybe even later.
This equates to major beef shortages which leads to even higher prices in the entire meat industry, which is what the USDA is announcing in this report.
Point Four, organic foods are on the rise, but there is no organic food to be found.
Organic Food Shortage Hits US
Organic and cage free eggs are becoming popular to the point that that some major grocery chains are reporting shortages.
A New Jersey ShopRite recently posted a sign saying the short supply was industry-wide and was due to increased demand and limited availability.
A Colorado blogger also snapped a picture in a Safeway store referencing a nationwide shortage of specialty and organic eggs.
And it seems supplies certain kinds of organic produce may also be temporarily limited.
Jon Steffy, of Organicproducegeek.com says demand during diet season, which he calls “resolution season”, is amplified.
“So I think we notice it more as demand continues to grow for wholesome organic food,” he said.
He also said organic cucumbers are one of a number of items that are harder to find right now.
Since Christmas, cucumbers supplies from Florida have almost ground to a halt and the Mexican supply is coming but it’s just not ready yet.
And as the basic theory of economics goes, less supply drives up prices.
Take organic berries for example:
There was a strawberry shortage a couple weeks back and prices spiked
Experts say the primary reasons for the shortages are weather and demand.
So if your favorite organic produce is in short demand right now, some good bets for availability and decent prices are winter squash and dark leafy greens.
This is an “indicator” market. It is natural that these sort of markets feel the pain first. But what this signals is that the food industry is and has been feeling the strain and they are now losing the battle.
What does all this spell out?
Folks, the flood gates are now open.
The food industry now has a scapegoat / permission to raise food prices.
You thought that food prices were high already, get ready for them to become astronomically high.
On my Facebook page a reader posted this regarding this news.
“Every week groceries are higher, and there’s less to pick from.”
I do not want to sound like a sensationalist, but it is going to get far far worse.
Sure there will be food on the shelves for you to buy, the question will be can you actually afford buying the food?
Food is an Investment
I am going to be honest and say that that I HATE credit cards, I hate the industry and all they do is practise usury. (being loan sharks)
BUT with that said, and this is a first for me, I would use your cards to purchase food now, and I mean now, this weekend.
Why this weekend?
This is a holiday weekend, traditionally people go on picnics, have BBQs, they do a lot of eating. Like any other major holiday you can find some great sales on food.
You need to look at food as an investment… Buy low, sell high.
In most cases though you are not going to be selling high, you save money because you are eating food bought at a lower price. Money saved is money earned.
I know that I sound like some broken record warning about the high prices that are coming.
These are facts folks, already we have seen from January to March at least a 25% price increase.
It does not take a rocket scientist to see this either. You have witnessed this yourself at the cash register.
We are already seeing prices creeping towards another 25% and they will be there plus some by June / July.
That is a 50% increase in the cost of food just in this short amount of time and June / July is not here yet.
So WE KNOW that prices will go up. That is why I say that you buy as much as you are able to do so and do it soon.
Take advantage of the food sales that are going on this holiday weekend.
The next major holiday where you will be able to take advantage of food sales will by July 4th and to be honest, you will probably still be looking at prices that are higher compared to today’s prices.
July 4th will also be in that June / July window and we will be past the 50% price increase with the odds that we will be seeing prices starting to push 75% increase by end of summer.
Food is an investment, you are investing in cheaper food now rather than paying the higher prices in a few months.
Got Food, Now Where To Put It
As many of you know Tracye and I rep Thrive Life / Shelf Reliance foods. If you would like to purchase long term food, please contact me and I can help or just go to my website at
Ray & Tracye Shelf Reliance Website http://www.thrivelife.com/Gano
Many of you have done that and kudos to you. But I am not here trying to sell food. What I am here to do is help you be able to store food in a small amount of area.
If you go to the Thrive Life website from the link above and then go to FOOD ROTATION you will see a shelf that holds about 460 cans of food.
This shelf is called “The Harvester 72” This is the best food storage shelf that money can buy.
At the Thrive Life Site you can see that it retails for $459.99 but the “website sale price” is $350.01. This does not include shipping.
That is a good price.
I just checked with Thrive Life and I am able to get PZ Readers an incredible price $264.99.
That is saving $86.00 off of the website sale price and a $194.00 savings off of retail.

Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org to get this special price of $264.99.
If you are going to start seriously stocking up on canned goods, you will need a place to keep them.
Tracye and I loved our Harvester shelf and to date I still have never filled it to capacity. 460 cans is a LOT of cans of food. I came close a few times, but it has never been filled completely up.
This was probably the best “survival tool” that Tracye and I probably had. Well there is my food dehydrator which really helped us save money dehydrating the left overs, but more about that in another article.
I know that there are some of you out there saying that I am saying all this to just make sales. I am not, I don’t make much off the shelf selling at that price. I make a whole lot more if you just go to the website. But to get this special PZ Reader price, I need to take the order over the phone and put it through my back office. This price is NOT offered to everyone and it is something that I am able to do for the PZ Readers.
Like it or not, believe it or not. Food prices are going up. Start investing in food. Start creating your ark.
Here is what God told Noah…
Genesis 6:21-22 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
We need to learn from scripture. God did not drop an ark out of the sky for Noah, he had to build it.
God will not drop an ark out of the sky for us, we too have to build it.
I have been warning about this for some time now. That time is now here. Do something and take action. Don’t allow “the wait and see” mentality to overcome you.
Look at the Jews who said “let’s wait and see,” what did that get them?
If one continues to “wait and see” then they will pay a higher price in many ways than just at the cash register.
Please take action on this.
The flood gates are now open and we will be seeing skyrocketing prices in the weeks to come.
I am reminded of what my friend Fernando Aguirre said who lived in Argentina during their current hyperinflation. He told me that he was paying $1500.00 US for a week’s worth of groceries and these were just the common needs.
I asked him what happened to people who could not afford to spend that?
He said very plainly, “they are starving to death eating horse and cow manure, picking rotten food out of the dump, eating grass, doing anything to stop the hunger.”
People were literally priced out of the food market in Argentina and today 25% of the population cannot afford to eat store bought food. This is a fact.
Folks, that is what is coming to the US.
Please don’t wait. Please be proactive and do something today.
Following this is the article “U.S. faces higher food price inflation in 2014, led by meats: USDA”
Take the time to really read this and understand that the flood gates are now open. The food industry WILL act on this and they WILL start reclaiming a lot of profit that they have lost in these past few years to make of for those losses forced upon them.
U.S. faces higher food price inflation in 2014, led by meats: USDA
Customers wait to be served at Casey’s Market in Western Springs, Illinois, April 25, 2012.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The severe drought in California could have a lasting effect on U.S. fruit, dairy and egg prices, while prices for meats, especially beef, look likely to continue climbing, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Friday.
The agency said overall U.S. food price inflation for 2014, including food bought at grocery stores and food bought at restaurants, would rise by 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent in 2014.
That is up from 2013, when retail food prices were almost flat, but in line with historical norms.
“The food-at-home consumer price index (CPI) has already increased more in the first four months of 2014 then it did in all of 2013,” USDA said.
It said the California drought “could potentially have large and lasting effects on fruit, vegetable, dairy and egg prices.” The most populous U.S. state is in its third year of what officials are calling a catastrophic drought.
The upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of the summer grilling season, and USDA said home chefs will face sticker shock.
Beef and veal prices, already at record highs, are forecast to increase by 5.5 percent to 6.5 percent and pork prices to rise by 3 percent to 4 percent.
Both forecasts were raised in the latest report. The beef and veal CPI is up almost 10 percent so far in 2014.
“The drought in Texas and Oklahoma has worsened somewhat in the last month, providing further complications to the beef production industry,” USDA said.
A major factor for rising pork prices is the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv), responsible for more than 7 million U.S. piglet deaths in the past year.
Sweets lovers and caffeine addicts will see some relief, however, since global prices for sugar and coffee remain low.
The agency forecast sugar and sweets prices to rise by 1 percent to 2 percent in 2014 and prices for non-alcoholic beverages to rise by 1.5 percent to 2.5 percent.
“It appears supermarkets are maintaining minimal price inflation on packaged food products, possibly in an effort to keep prices competitive in light of rising cost pressures for most perishable items,” USDA said.
