An Islamic Antichrist is a “NEW” Teaching — NOT

ray-gano-medUnderstanding the historical precedence of an Islamic Antichrist vs an EU antichrist that has only been really taught over the past 50 years.

For the past several years the idea of an Islamic End-Times idea represents something “NEW.”

The majority of the popular End-Times teachers and authors taught that the Antichrist will come out of a revived European Roman Empire.

What many forget is what Solomon stated in Ecclesiastes 1:9-11.. There is nothing new under the sun and we often forget our history.—Ray Paraphrased.

Because the Islamic end time theory is seen as a “new” theory, there have been many who have looked at it with great suspicion.

What many of us forget, because we forget our history like scriptures tell us, is that the whole EU Antichrist is an idea that has only been around for about the past 50 or so years. The idea gained the lime light when the book “Late Great Planet Earth” by Hal Lindsey was published. Because LGPE became a global best seller and still sells to this day, many still accept the idea.

Have We Been Wrong All This Time?

Well, yes and no. See the traditional western interpretation correctly sees the ancient empires, yet it misses their dual fulfillment.

Babylonian empire is the lion.

For example, the lion is an animal most often historically associated with Babylon and the prophet Jeremiah refers to Babylon as a lion. (Jeremiah 4:7)

Medo-Persian Empire is The Bear.

Daniel 7:5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

The description of the bear matches the Medo-Persian Empire. During that time Persia exerted far more influence over the Median portion of the empire. We see the bear arose on one side as scripture tells us. Persia without Media; one side rising and the other remains.

Iran is rising, but Media (Kurdistan) we see is not.

The leopard is the Greek empire.

The leopard is a fast and hunts using stealth as its means of attack. Biblical historians throughout the ages have referenced this prophecy to Alexander the Great. Alexander’s military used its prowess and incredible speed with which they moved and conquered the ancient world.

Daniels fourth beast is dreadful and terrible with iron teeth.

If we are to believe the common teaching that has prevailed over the past 50 or so years, then Europe should emerge as the iron-toothed beast of Daniel 7.

But as much as people have tried to push square pegs into round holes, it still has not come about. In fact the EU is having trouble just staying together. Recent elections have brought about a separatist movement in France, England and the sediment is growing in other EU nations. The general consensus is that they do not like being a united Europe.

For many years we have kept hearing that Europe is to grow into this vicious and unstoppable military machine that will kill and trample down the whole earth, leaving untold millions of victims in its wake.

But the opposite is still the mainstay.

What people need to realize is that like it or not, we are running out of time. Either we ARE the final generation, or we are NOT.

The Final Generation is Running Out of Time

All these teachers keep saying.. “Oh it is just a matter of time now.” Well they have been promoting that mantra now for years and we are getting to the point that this generation’s time is ticking down very quickly.

behead-islamSo on one hand they say that we are the final generation, yet they still promote ideas that will take eons to produce or come to fruition.

Folks, when iron is used as symbol, it signifies ruthlessness. This beast we see in Daniel is ruthless and has iron teeth.

Is the EU a ruthless beast today? In all honesty can we see them as a ruthless beast tomorrow? I am sure that there are die hard’s out there saying that anything is possible. But I bring back the matter of generational time.

I have written on this and many many scholars agree that Psalms  90:10 defines a generation.

How long is a biblical generation?

Psalms  90:10 (KJV)  The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

In other words, the number of years people live on the average is 70, possibly 80 if they are strong and of good constitution.

To back this up, because scripture ALWAYS interprets and backs itself up, Matthew in his reciting of Christ’s generations follow the Psalms 90:10 definition of a generation, 70 years.

Matthew  1:17 (KJV)  So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

Matthew is using the Psalm 90 definitions of generation in order to tell a specific chronological time story of our Lord Jesus Christ. So if Matthew is using it pertaining to and qualifying our Lord, we should use it also.

So with all that said, and just doing simple math, 1948 was when Israel became a nation. That is when God turned over that “generational hour glass” and the sands of time have been running out.

So using Psalms definition we take 1948 and add 70 years, that comes up to 2018. That is approximately 4 years away. Well taking into account that 2014 is 1/2 over, we have a little over 3.5 years left.

Now we can push it out to 2023 by adding 5 more years – 75 years – and 2028 if we push it out to the 80 years, but Matthew does not back this idea up.

I want people to clearly understand that I am not predicting the rapture or second coming. All that I am pointing out is that “this generation” is coming to an end. What is going to happen when that generation comes to an end, I am not sure.

What I want people to see is that as of this very moment, Islam, not the EU is fulfilling scripture and the “new” teaching of the EU being the final empire is an idea that is not holding much water anymore.

With that, I want to present others who have taught that the Antichrist and the final empire will be from Islam.

These are all highly respected and learned men of God. Many of them we quote and respect. In fact I respect their scholarly teachings more than many of today’s modern scholars who have accepted the “new” EU teaching of the past 50 or so years.

John Wesley

“Ever since the religion of Islam appeared in the world, the espousers of it…have been as wolves and tigers to all other nations, rending and tearing all that fell into their merciless paws, and grinding them with their iron teeth; that numberless cities are raised from the foundation, and only their name remaining; that many countries, which were once as the garden of God, are now a desolate wilderness; and that so many once numerous and powerful nations are vanished from the earth! Such was, and is at this day, the rage, the fury, the revenge, of these destroyers of human kind.”

newtonDoes this sound like he is describing a beast with iron teeth that is ruthless and ravenous?

Sir Isaac Newton

Discussing Daniel 11:36-45, Sir Isaac Newton saw this passage as fulfilled in the Islamic conquest—the lands ruled by the Muslim Turks.  He stated to the effect that “these nations compose the Empire of the Turks, and therefore this Empire is here to be understood by the King of the North.”  (Newton’s The Prophecies of Daniel and The Apocalypse, p. 189)

Martin Luther

Martin Luther (1483–1546) was the father of the Protestant reformation. He stated… “The Pope is the spirit of antichrist, and the Turk (Muslims) is the flesh of antichrist. They help each other in their murderous work. The latter slaughters bodily by the sword; and the former spiritually by doctrine” (Martin Luther, Tischreden, Weimer ed., 1, No. 330)

John Calvin

Calvin also connected the Antichrist o Muhammad. We read … “In Daniel 11:37, that Prophet predicted the coming of a terrible tyrant. This is how he described that tyrant: ‘Neither shall he pay regard to the God of his fathers, nor to the desire of women.’ Applied to the Unitarian Muslims, this might well mean that they would ignore the Trinitarian God of their forefathers—and with their licentiousness and polygamy also disregard the desire of women to conclude monogamous unions. Some refer this prophecy to the Pope and to Mahomet—and the phrase ‘the love of women’ seems to give probability to this view. For Mahomet allowed to men the brutal liberty of chastising their wives, and thus he corrupted that conjugal love and fidelity which binds the husband to the wife…. Mahomet allowed full scope to various lusts—by permitting a man to have a number of wives. This seems like an explanation—of his being inattentive to the love of women.”

(Calvin On Islam Revelation Prof. Dr. Francis Nigel Lee (Lamp Trimmers El Paso, 2000)

Jonathan Edwards

Known for the greatest sermon ever given”Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” Johnathan Edwards believed and taught that the Islamic sweep over the remnant of the eastern Roman Empire was foretold in Scripture.

“The Mahometan kingdom is another of mighty power and vast extent, set up by Satan against the kingdom of Christ. … And then the Turks, who were originally different from the Saracens, became followers of Mahomet, and conquered all the Eastern empire.  They began their empire about the year of Christ twelve hundred and ninety-six; began to invade Europe in the year thirteen hundred; took Constantinople, and so became masters of all the Eastern empire, in the year fourteen hundred and fifty-three.  And thus all the cities and countries where stood those famous churches of which we read in the New Testament, as Jerusalem, Antioch, Ephesus, Corinth, &c. now became subject to the Turks.  These are supposed to be prophesied of by the horsemen in the 9th chapter of Revelation, beginning with the 15th verse.”

(Quoted from Jonathan Edwards’ classic, A History of the Work of Redemption)

Cyril of Jerusalem (315-386)

Here is one that is absolutely amazing. Even before the advent of Islam, there were those who looked toward the Middle East for the fulfillment of the Antichrist prophecies. Cyril was a distinguished theologian and Father of the early Church. In his Divine Institutes, Cyril discusses the fact that the Antichrist will proceed forth from the region of ancient Syria, which extended from modern day Syria well into portions of Asia Minor (Turkey)

Here is his words…. “A king shall arise out of Syria, born from an evil spirit, the over thrower and destroyer of the human race, who shall destroy that which is left by the former evil, together with himself… But that king will not only be most disgraceful in himself, but he will also be a prophet of lies, and he will constitute and call himself God, and will order himself to be worshipped as the Son of God, and power will be given to him to do signs and wonders, by the sight of which he may entice men to adore him… Then he will attempt to destroy the temple of God and persecute the righteous people.”

(Saint Cyril of Jerusalem Divine Institutes 7:17 A.D. 307)

Clearly we see that the idea that the Antichrist will come from the Middle East and out of Islam is certainly not new.

There are many other great men of God who professed Islam as the origins of the Antichrist and where his empire will come out of…

Sir Robert Anderson

Bishop Fulton J Sheen

Gregory Palamus of Thessalonica (1354)

Vernon Richards

Josiah Litch (1840)

Sophronius, Patriarch of Jerusalem (560-638)

Maximus the Confessor (580-662)

John of Damascus (676-749)

Eulogius, Paul Alvarus, and The Martyrs of Cordova (9th Century)

And the list goes on.

Although many out there do not wish to agree, the Antichrist coming out of Islam is not a new teaching. In fact it was the dominate teaching for much of the Christian world though out the ages. It is the teaching that the Antichrist will come out of the EU which is new.

one-man-to-unite-them-allAgain, if we are to hold to scripture and completely stand on scripture, then we must submit to scripture and stop leaning on the traditions of men that we have held to in these last days of the last days.

We must admit that we may have been wrong in our modern ideas and that like it or not these modern ideas are based more on books and movies than it is based on scripture. We have forgotten to read scripture in context. Instead we compartmentalize verses and cherry pick them to suit our modern ideas.

I hope that this will help you and it gives you tools to help better share the gospel as well as defend against this “new” idea that has been promoted for only the last 50 or so years.

Please share this with everyone. Challenge these teachers who promote the whole EU idea. Show them that scholarly time is not on their side and great men of God point to Islam.

In the end we have to come to the conclusion that if we are the final generation, we are in fact running out of time. So either we “got it all wrong” or God’s Word is lying to us.

God does not lie, that is a fact, so that means that like it or not “we got it all wrong” and we have to “man up” to that fact and make wrong right again so that we can fall in line with Scripture, not with the traditions of men that over the years have become “doctrine” because that is what all the popular books, movies and prophecy conference teachers have been promoting.

I am willing and I have publically stated that I was wrong in my thinking when I promoted a EU AC. We need others to follow suit. The evidence is clear and it is there. So what is holding people back from standing with scripture and the clear evidence? Fear, Doubt, or maybe it is pride and the almighty dollar?

I made up a saying a few years ago… “If scripture fits, we gotta submit.”

Do you submit?
