I Choose Joy This Holiday Season

By Ray Gano

It’s interesting, every since we have been back in the US, it is like we have a new appreciation of that which is around us.

One thing that we are truly grateful for is being close to family again. Our kids, our grand kids and our parents. It is nice that we do not have to wait months and save up paychecks just to see them.

One thing that we learned living down in Central America, is to just put all the drama life loves to dish out and put it behind us.

I guess that is one of the reasons why I wrote “When You Can’t Hang With The Toxic People Any More”

If you have not read it, please take a moment and read it here –

When You Can’t Hang With The Toxic People Any More

One of the other things that I missed, is being able to listen to Christian radio in the car again. Here in the Houston area we have a great station, KSBJ.

While I was listening the other day, I heard the following statement …

“I need joy. And when I keep my eyes on Jesus, I have joy, When I lose sight of it, I will choose it. I choose joy.”

When I heard this over the radio it kind of hit me, like WOW.

Choose Joy

The holidays are tough on many people; especially in this day and time of living in the last days of the last days.

I am reminded of 2 Timothy…

2 Timothy 3:1 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”

We know that we are here in these last days and we are seeing perilous times.

They are in our face in big bold 3D Technicolor, and at times it just seems to weigh us down.

I had a friend send me a video about Fema camps this week, another friend sent me something on martial law in Chicago. Another sent me something on how there is this new religion forming who worship this AI god.

On top of all that, we ourselves have been preparing for the family to come over for Christmas, seeing it is our first Christmas home. “Clean this, hang that, do this and gotta get that.”

Seems that the stress is compounding, and tempers are getting a tad short.

The little tag line that I heard on the radio played through my head…

“I need joy. And when I keep my eyes on Jesus, I have joy, When I lose it, I will choose it and I choose joy.”

All of a sudden, I am refocused and I am reminded of our life verse

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

As I have mentioned in the past, Tracye and I call this our “Third Party Rule.”

When I say that I am choosing joy, the phrase “trust in the Lord with all thine heart” seems to play also in the back of my mind.

Then I start thinking of our wonderful Lord, His promises and all He does in our life, including fill us with glorious joy.

Scripture says…

1 Peter 1:8 “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy!”

Now, I know that there are some of you out there that are going through some really hard times. I can sympathize with that. But what we need to do is choose joy.

“NO Enemy… I am not giving you the ground. I choose joy this season and I will not let you get me down.”

Choose Joy and Share The Joy

Do you know someone who needs a little joy in their life? You want to experience even more joy? Then share the joy within you.

As many of you know I am on Facebook a lot as well as some of the other social media. Those are great places to let friends and family know that you are thinking about them. Reach out to folks you have not seen or heard from in a while and let them know that you are thinking of them.

Maybe there is someone you have not spoken to in a while and their name keeps popping up in your head. If that is the case, then maybe God is wanting you to act by reaching out and sharing the joy.

By sharing the joy with others believe it or not, you feel even more joy in yourself.

How has God helped you in choosing Joy this holiday season?
