Keys To Spiritual Survival – Learning to Live in God’s Grace

ray-gano-medOver the last several years I have been writing about preparing your family for hard times to come. I have talked about storing food, medical supplies and the means to hunt/ fish / protect your family.

Many of you have taken what I have presented and ran with it. You have good supplies built up and solid contingency plans.

Many of you are now physically prepared.

So with that, I want to start focusing on spiritual preparedness.

Last week I stared this series with an article titled “Keys to Spiritual Survival – The Third Party Rule.”

As we look out on the world we live in we clearly see a demise of our culture. In fact this demise is taking place in many parts of the world.

Because our nation is utterly wicked, the righteous are suffering with the heathen.

Hardly anyone cares about God anymore.

People are liars and false accusers, hypocrites and evil-minded.

Feminism has destroyed our homes, teaching women to be intolerant of their husbands, encouraging divorce and worse forgetting their natural love.

So much so that lesbianism is on the rise almost more so than homosexuality.

Corporations no longer care and have cutthroat not only to the completion, but also to the very employees that help them succeed.

Banking and financial institutions have become severely predatory, wiping out the average man to the point of slavery.

We live in an age that I believe that has never been seen before.

Yes these things have taken place in the past. But not to this degree and magnitude.

How do we protect ourselves? How do we find solace in this horrible storm that we are beginning to enter?

Now more than ever we need to learn to live in God’s Grace.

What Is Grace?

Grace is unmerited favor from God given man for our regeneration and sanctification in Him. Grace is God’s free provision for us through His Son.

As grace manifests itself in us, we learn to trust more and more in God and the work of His Son.

It is God’s grace that grants us our needs, our wants and help in our ministries.

grace wordle

God’s grace helps us in our daily walk in what God’s Word commands us to walk in. It is His grace that not only sanctifies us, but regenerates us, changing us from the inside out. Turning us away from the ways of man and changes us more into that “new man.” Which through this change, we become more Christ like.

It is God’s grace that works through us even with all our problems, errors, inadequacies that still resides in all of us.

We could never deserve or earn that grace that God bestows on us.

So all this bible speak is fine and dandy, but HOW do we live in God’s grace especially in the dark days that we are living in?

How Do We Live In Grace? – Through Obedience

How do we live and grow in God’s Grace?

Simple… we obey Him.

It is His grace that is there to help us, regenerate us and sanctify us.

It is unmerited favor being bestowed upon us by God, through His Son Jesus Christ.

We cannot earn His grace, but when we choose to live and obey His Word it seems that we see more of His favor vs times when we are disobedient.

I am also not saying that we must live 100% within God’s Law, but we are not to take advantage of Him and live like heathens either.

I guess the best way of saying it is living within His Law that is wrapped in His Grace.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

I am not sure if I am putting it in a way that one can easily understand.

Imagine if you will, you are a child again and as a child we did good things and bad things. Well the more bad things we did, the less favor our parents would bestow upon us. The more good things we did, the more favor our parents would bestow.

It is kind of a cause and effect. Do right, do good, obey and you will see more of God’s favor. Sin more, disobey, do things you know you should not be doing and you will see less of God’s favor. In fact, what you will see more of is His chastisement if you are living an improper life.

Something I do want to point out, this is not some formula that you apply. Just because you are doing good does not mean you will get that Porsche you have been asking for all these years.

In fact there will be times when you are doing everything right and still bad things happen. It is when you are going through these bad times where you learn to lean more upon God’s grace and know that no matter what happens, He is there and He will see you through.

Why did you do well for your parents when you were young?

Because you loved them and you wanted them to be proud of you.

Why do you choose to do what is right and obey God?

It isn’t because of what you will get. It is for the same reason, because you love God and you want Him to be proud of you.

That is living in grace. You are living in the unmerited favor of God and because you are choosing to live that way, God’s favor is upon you.

Our parents have laws of the house and we obeyed, why should we not think that God does not have rules to His house?

No matter what there are rules, and God has His.

Christ did not come here to abolish the rules, He came to wrap those rules in grace, God’s unmerited favor.

The Growth of Modern Pharisees

In these growing dark days it seems that man has forgotten to live in God’s Grace.

I am seeing more and more people out there trying to earn God’s grace through his Law.

Yes I know that I sound like I am contradicting myself, but I am not.

There are groups rising where they say that you must observe that Sabbath, you can’t eat pork, you can’t do this or you can’t do that.

Why? Because God commands it.

The problem with these people is that they are forgetting grace. Their salvation seems to be built upon “Jesus – PLUS.”

Do you know that I was recently accused of not teaching the Torah?

I have to admit that when I was accused of this, I got upset.

What is the Torah?

Isn’t it God’s Law / The Word?

Isn’t the bible God’s Law / His Word?

So how is it that I am not teaching the Torah?

OH… WAIT… is it because I don’t call it Torah?

This person was also upset that I did not observe the Sabbath, ate pork, and did other things that were against “The Law.”

I have known this person for about 6 years now, but because they have become “enlightened” regarding our “Hebrew Roots” I guess that I was not as holy as they were and most likely going to burn in hell because I did not teach the Torah.

I asked this person to show me where I was not preaching God’s Word (the Torah).

They couldn’t.

I asked if it was because I don’t use fancy Hebrew words and speak in what I call “Hebrish” (Hebrew and English) so that I sound more knowledgeable than other people in the “true” ways of God and His Word?

Was it because I still ate bacon for breakfast, went to church on Sunday’s, ect.

Pretty much, the answer was yes.

To be honest, I was blown away.

This is being a modern Pharisee. Applying the Law not only to yourself, but also applying it to others, all the while lacking grace.

The Law is Good and We Are To Love It

Folks, the law is good. But when it is wrapped in grace, it is the Holy Spirit that works inside us to slowly change us from the inside out.

After a while we want to observe more of the laws, in fact God convicts us more and more as our Christian walk matures.

But take grace away from the law and all you have is legalism, the same thing that the Pharisees practised.

What we tend to forget is that God works in us all differently.

For some he may be working on lying to people. For others he may be working on coveting, others, eating shellfish, others observing the Sabbath.

We cannot go around pushing how God is changing us and have them apply it to them.

Sure someone may come up and tell me the evils of eating shellfish, and yes, there are things that can happen when you consume it. Studies show that shellfish had elevated levels of mercury and other heavy metals that harm our health. They are high in cholesterol, and like it or not, many are bottom feeders. Which means they feed off all the garbage, filth and feces that is sitting at the water’s bottom.

About 7+ years ago I used to be a pack a day smoker.

Over time God really convicted me of this and I wanted to stop, but no matter what I did, I always failed and would end up picking it up again.

That is till I finally asked God to deliver me from it. All I needed was 24 hours of being sick or something so that I was smoke free. I knew that if this was the case, God could take that desire away from me. My back was against the wall and there was nothing that I could do to stop this. I had to have a miracle happen in my life so that I would be able to quit permanently.

That period of being smoke free for 24 hours finally came and from that day till now, I have not had any desire to smoke, nor had any cravings.

It was God’s unmerited favor shining upon me that healed me of that addiction and to this day I praise Him for it.

I also know that there is a line in the sand that I cannot cross. To do so would be a sin against Him, so I don’t even tempt myself by getting close to that line.

I know that I have the capability of backsliding in my personal sin, so why even entertain the idea? To do so would be something to spitting in God’s face for the healing that he performed in my life.

It was His grace that healed me.

Now, do I go around condemning everyone who smokes?

No, I don’t.

Now don’t get me wrong. I do warn them and say that they should not be doing something that damages the temple of God. And if I am asked, I will pray with that person who may be addicted to smoking. But I do not wield it over them like a sword of punishment making myself “More Holy” than they are because they smoke and I don’t.

That is what I mean by living in God’s Grace and being obedient to His Law.

When we live in God’s Grace and apply His Law that He convicts us to obey, we begin that change from within and over the years we mature more and more in His Word, His Law and His Grace.

Living In Grace & Surviving Today’s Dark Days

amazing-grace-collision1The days we are living in are evil and getting more and more that way. We need God’s grace to see us through. The work days are getting longer, the pay is getting less and the taxes are rising.

Living in God’s grace today means doing what you are able to do to please Him, just like the child wishes to please the parent. We need to be obedient to Him because we love Him and we want to please Him.

When we are living in this manner, God’s grace will shine upon us and we will see the Holy Spirit work in us, causing us to be more effective for Him and less effective for the enemy.

When we live in God’s grace, those problems that seemed like mountains, soon grow into speed bumps. The troubles of the world are not as bad as they first appeared. Those giants we fight, they turn and run. The storms we face, we have a tower to run to.

The more that we trust and obey Him, the more we live in His grace.

That is the key that we must grab hold of and never let go.

Days are here where there are not many good churches to attend. Solid biblical fellowship is becoming rare and our even finding this sort of fellowship is even harder.

That is why it is vitally important that we learn to live in His grace. We learn to live within His law because it is His Law that will keep us safe.

By living in His Law, there is freedom.

Yes I know that sounds like an oxymoron, or something that is totally contradicting. But what is contradicting is the “flesh” that we live in. It is that very same “flesh” that fights to rebel against God and His Law.

Where if we can learn to embrace His Law, we will find that ultimate freedom in God’s wonderful grace.

“Trust and Obey,
For there is no other way,
To be happy in Jesus….
But to trust and obey.”

Trust and obey, and you will find that the dark days are not so dark. That is because you are living in the light of God’s Grace.

God promises us that His Grace is sufficient for us. That no matter what is happening in our lives, that His grace will see us through.

David describes living a life surrounded by God’s grace. We read it in Psalms 23…

Psalms 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

This is a prime example of living in God’s Grace.

All we have to do is truly submit ourselves to doing it.

We do that, by truly loving God. It isn’t lip service that we give, it is heart service.

Jesus said “If you love me, obey my commandments.”

That is the beginning of living in God’s Grace. Accept it and submit to it. I promise that if you do, you will live a very enriching life that only God can give.
