Let Thine Heart Keep My Commandments

bible-glassesThis morning the following verses jumped out at me….

Pro 3:1  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

Pro 3:2  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Pro 3:3  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

Pro 3:4  So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Pro 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Pro 3:6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Pro 3:7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Pro 3:8  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Pro 3:9  Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

Pro 3:10  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Pro 3:11  My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

Pro 3:12  For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Pro 3:13  Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Wow… The answer to life in just 13 verses.

You ever have that happen? If the Holy Spirit resides in your heart, I am sure you have.

Recently I have been feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders. I have been concerned about the direction this country is going and honestly feel saddened in this direction.

Last night before I went to bed I was sent the following headline…

New Bill Known As “Enemy Expatriation Act” Would Allow Government To Strip Citizenship Without Conviction

Congress is considering HR 3166 and S. 1698 also known as the Enemy Expatriation Act, sponsored by Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Charles Dent (R-PA). This bill would give the US government the power to strip Americans of their citizenship without being convicted of being “hostile” against the United States. In other words, you can be stripped of your nationality for “engaging in, or purposefully and materially supporting, hostilities against the United States.” Legally, the term “hostilities” means any conflict subject to the laws of war but considering the fact that the War on Terror is a little ambiguous and encompassing, any action could be labeled as supporting terrorism. Since the Occupy movement began, conservatives have been trying to paint the protesters as terrorists. (1)

On New Year’s eve and in private the president signed the NDAA bill.

The National Defense Authorization Act greatly expands the power and scope of the federal government to fight the War on Terror, including codifying into law the indefinite detention of terrorism suspects without trial. Under the new law the US military has the power to carry out domestic anti-terrorism operations on US soil.

“The fact that I support this bill as a whole does not mean I agree with everything in it,” the president said in a statement. “I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists.”

Worse, the NDAA authorizes the military to detain even US citizens under the broad new anti-terrorism provisions provided in the bill, once again without trial. (2)

Couple NDAA with Enemy Expatriation Act thus stripping US Citizens of their citizenship and what we have is the makings of fascist totalitarian state.

So you can see why the weight of the world is feeling heavy these past few days.

What sort of world will our children and grand children live in?  What sort of country will they inherit?

I can’t change the laws that are being written, but what I can do is influence my little part of the world for God.

This is why Proverbs 3:1-13 stood out in my mind today.

In just 13 verses, the answer to living a full, peaceful, long life is given right there in black and white.

I don’t know about you, but I was relieved in reading this specially living in a world hell bent on NOT obeying His Word.

An old hymn has been going through my mind these days, Trust and Obey.

1.    When we walk with the Lord

in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2.    Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

3.    But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

4.    Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

I have been praying and seeking out council from others.

But it is God’s Word that gives me the most peace.

Well because prayer is us talking to God.

But it is through God’s Word where He talks to us.

It feels good to have God talk to us. There is a peace that unless you are a bible believing Christian, you can never understand… nor have.

I took great solace in the verses above this morning. See it is so easy to be running to and fro like a chicken with his head cut off. But it is wonderful how God’s Word grounds us and sets us upon the straight and narrow path.

Forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments… Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
