Living in God’s Power

power-of-godHow often do you feel like your prayers are just hitting the ceiling? Do you have a feeling of being sluggish spiritually? You read the Bible and all you seem to be reading is “blah blah blah” but worse you can’t even remember the last sentence that you read.

What we are suffering is a lack of God’s power working in our lives.

But these are just symptoms because we have negated our duties to God.

Here we became  Christians, asked Him into our lives and all we have done since is lived a lack luster life. We lack the power, the faith, the joy and peace in our lives.

Well it comes down to two things. Either we were ignorant of our duties to God, or we willfully negated our duties to God.

See what many do not understand is once we are a Child of The Almighty God, there are responsibilities that we must take ownership of.

Paul, in the book of Romans states it best…

Romans 12:1-2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Here Paul is talking to the Romans telling them what they need to do and in fact he makes it clear that it is our “reasonable service” to give our lives to the Lord because He gave His life for us.

We all know the most famous Bible verse in the world…

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

He gave his only begotten Son.

That is why we have a responsibility to God.

In fact Paul tells us that we are not only to give our lives to Him as a living sacrifice, but we are to live a holy life.

God Himself in the book of Leviticus tells us…

Leviticus 20:7  Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.

Peter reiterates/reminds us this commandment in saying…

1 Peter 1:16  Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

man_sad_bedSo why are we feeling like our prayers bounce off the ceiling, spiritual sluggishness and just an overall “blah” in our lives?

It is because we do not have the power of God working in our lives. We do not have the power of God working in our lives because we have not submitted daily our walk with the Lord. We are not a living sacrifice nor do we live a holy life.

We have chosen to live our own life over a life that brings glory to God holy and acceptable unto Him.

We thought that all we had to do is raise a hand, go down to the front, pray a little prayer and that was the end of our responsibilities.

But it isnt, that is if you want more out of living your life for the Lord.

If you happy with just saying the little prayer and all, you will have a pretty shallow life. In fact I would bet that your life would be filled with misery.

Why? Because you are not living for Him with all the potential you have to serve. In other words you are not submitting to your “Reasonable Service” as Paul told us to do.

How To Live a Fulfilling Life For Him

So how do we live a proper life for the Lord?

Again, going back to Paul we “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind”

Well how does one “renew our minds”?

We renew our minds through the reading of God’s Word.

It is His Word, the Bible, how God communicates with us.

In fact I kind of equate the process of renewing the mind to “recharging a battery.”

The more we read God’s Word, the more our batteries get charged, the longer we live a holy and acceptable life unto Him.

But as the batteries start to drain, living a holy life unto Him also begins to wane. The power of God diminishes and fades within our lives and we are no longer living a life holy and acceptable unto Him. His power begins to seriously lack in our lives.

Something that becomes evident is that when we are in God’s Word more, we also find our prayer lives increasing also. These two naturally go hand in hand.

The benefit is an overall gain in our fellowship with God.

This is our duty, our reasonable service unto Him.

We have a duty to the Lord Our God. That duty is our reasonable service and through this we gain God’s power in our lives.

Do you want God’s power in your life? Have you lost God’s power in your life?

What you need to do is live a holy and acceptable life unto Him. We are called to renew our minds through God’s Word; and out of that our fellowship with God grows.

We have a duty to serve God. Our responsibility did not end with the raising of our hand or saying some short little prayer.
Christ said…

Mark 8:34  And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Do you lack God’s power in your life?

Come to Him, seek His face and repent. Ask Him into your lives and then live your life for God. Deny yourself and take up your cross.

You will gain an exciting and adventurous life. Things may be difficult, but God is always with us and he promises to never fail us or forsake us.

Live for Him because He died for you.
