Our Christian Heritage – Thanksgiving Reflections

thanksgiving-skyThis is what I woke up to this morning. The thought came into my head, what a great way to start the Thanksgiving week.

There are so many things that we can be thankful for, but at times it is the little things that we often forget, like a beautiful sunrise on a chilly morning. It is so easy to wake up, get out of bed, run a comb across my head. You know how the song goes. How often do we stop to really smell the roses, look at a beautiful sunrise, or admire your wife while she is still sound asleep.

Those are the little things that I think many of us tend to overlook and also tend to forget to give thanks for.

I want to thank all of those who helped by purchasing my books so that I can upgrade my computer.

Right now I am writing you from my upgraded Windows 7 Ultimate system, with two new 1 TB hard drives and thanks for a couple people, I was also able to upgrade my graphics card. Which my computer guy said was ancient. It is like having a whole new computer.

THANK YOU! And thanks to all of you who are my readers. It is your prayers and you being there for us that allow us to continue to do the work that we do.

Tracye and I want to wish all of you a very happy Thanksgiving and we pray that God continues to bless you and keep you and that His favor shines brightly upon you and your family this holiday season.

This Thursday in America we are going to be giving thanks to our Lord for the blessings he has bestowed upon us.

That is if you love the Lord, believe in His Word and you are a Christian.

The rest of America will be eating, drinking, partying, watching football and there will probably be a family fight or two.

I don’t know how the world does it, live such a shallow life moving from one day to the next. A few high points here and there, but most of the time it is get up, go to work, eat a mundane lunch, finish out work, come home, watch TV, go to bed and then do it all over again. All the while watching and waiting for the weekend so that they can eat, drink, party and live their lives through sports.

I don’t know about you, but life would be utterly miserable if I did not have Christ as my Lord and Savior.

How do people who do not know the Lord go from day to day?

How do they handle the hardships of life?

looking-for-hopeI mean look at the world today, the only way one could deal with the reality is to drink, take drugs, party, sex, just about anything to mask the reality of the sinful world today.

If one does not have Christ, what an empty life one would lead.

This more than anything is why I give thanks.

I give thanks that God gave his only Son to die for my sins so that I might live with Him forever. God allowed His Son’s blood to be shed for me.

That in and of itself should bring people to their knees giving thanks.

Our Christian Heritage

This week is Thanksgiving and many of us will come together here in the US and give thanks to our Lord for the blessings he has blessed us throughout the year.

It is during this time of year that I reflect that our country was founded and built upon the fear of God and His Word.

On April 10, 1606 King James I granted the first charter of Virginia to the Jamestown colonists.

The following is how the charter opened up, giving the instructions for the Virginia Colony

“We, greatly commending, and graciously accepting of, their Desires for the Furtherance of so noble a Work, which may, by the Providence of Almighty God, hereafter tend to the Glory of his Divine Majesty, in propagating of Christian Religion to such People, as yet live in Darkness and miserable Ignorance of the true Knowledge and Worship of God…”

Many in our nation today reject the fact that this nation was founded on His principals given to us and found in His Word.

Benjamin Franklin stated the following at the Constitutional Convention of 1787…

“God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel”

On reflecting where we are today, I present wise words from the past from Governor Samuel Johnston.

“It is apprehended that Jews, Mahometans (Muslims), pagans, etc., may be elected to high offices under the government of the United States. Those who are Mahometans, or any others who are not professors of the Christian religion, can never be elected to the office of President or other high office, [unless] first the people of America lay aside the Christian religion altogether, it may happen. Should this unfortunately take place, the people will choose such men as think as they do themselves.”

[Elliot’s Debates, Vol. IV, pp 198-199, Governor Samuel Johnston, July 30, 1788 at the North Carolina Ratifying Convention]

I find it interesting that Governor Johnson focuses on Islam, recognizing the dangers that the Muslim system presents.

I look at who we have voted into office, a Muslim and if he is not a Muslim, then he chooses to side with Islam and not that of Jehovah God, the Creator.

We are a nation founded upon the principals of God Almighty. It is His Word, the Bible that has helped govern the direction this nation would go. But fast forward to today, we no longer heed God’s Word.

I give thanks that there still is a spark of liberty and love for The God of Heaven and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There are a few of us still who uphold the principals upon which this nation was founded. We do not forget that this nation has been blessed by God and God alone.

It wasn’t Buddha who George Washington called upon in prayer at Valley Forge. It was Jehovah God.

It wasn’t Allah who Thomas Jefferson sought out in the following prayer on March 4, 1801…

“Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people, the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth. In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.”

Who did Jefferson call upon? Almighty God.

One of the greatest Presidents of modern times, Ronald Reagan felt that America and Americans needed the Bible. The Bible, argued Reagan, held all the answers. “I’m accused of being simplistic at times,” he said more than once. “But within that single Book are all the answers to all the problems that face us.”

President Reagan stated the following…

“Americans must seek Divine guidance in the policies of their government and the promulgation of their laws.”

I give thanks that my family is healthy and we have a dry roof over our head and that no matter what, God will provide.

Philippians 4:6 (KJV) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

At times I forget this verse and worry about what tomorrow brings. I look at where this nation is going and what seems to have been lost and my heart sinks.

But I then remember the old hymn and I count my blessings, naming them one by one.

ray-tracye-panamaI thank God I have such a wonderful wife Tracye, that without her by my side, I would never accomplish the task which the Lord has given me. She has been a real anchor, but more than that, she truly is my best friend. She shares many of the same interests in Bible Prophecy and has provided solid council and discernment regarding the Prophezine ministry. She is a lot of fun to hang out with and I am privileged to have her just ten feet from me sitting at her desk working alongside of me. Not many couples have that instilled in their marriage where they can work with their spouse day in and day out and still be best friends. I am very thankful for the love of my life, my wife Tracye.

I thank God for the wonderful children and grandchildren that the Lord has blessed us with. It is wonderful to see them grow daily and instilling within them the same Godly morals and principals we have been blessed with. They are the future and it is in their hands which one day we will give this nation’s stewardship too.

I am reminded of the following scripture…

Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

I thank God for allowing me to live in these last days, to see His hand working daily in the affairs of men and the world. At times it is with fear and awe as well as understanding that our God reigns and that He is on the throne, already knowing what tomorrow brings.

I give thanks that we have the freedom still to read God’s Word. At times I shudder to think that one day I may not have access to His Word. At times when I think of this a small panic comes over me. It is God’s Word that I give thanks for. I personally do not know how I would get through life if I did not have access to that One Book that is above all others. I love His Word, it is God’s love letter to me and I thank Him for it.

I give thanks that I have a wonderful church, Boquete Bible Fellowship, and our pastor Buddy Westbrook who takes his position seriously. The hours that he spends studying God’s Word so that he can teach us as the congregation. I am also thankful for a wonderful church family who cares for us and whom we can share good times and bad with the understanding that they themselves have also experienced trials and tribulation as well as the blessings of God.

I thank God for all of you who read my work and share it with others. I thank God that there are those of you who believe in our work here and stand in the gap with us. I imagine one day in Heaven someone running up to me, someone I have no knowledge of what so ever and them thanking me for what we did here at Prophezine. It was that one article, one podcast, that one video that the Holy Spirit used to convict their hearts and because of that, they submitted their lives to the Lord.

I thank God that Tracye and I are able to serve such wonderful people and that together all of us are working to share the blessed hope of our Lord Jesus Christ and His soon return.

And finally and most of all I give God the thanks that He gave His Only Begotten Son, to die for my sins and the sins of the world. I thank Him that I am a child of God and it is to God Almighty I give my life too. I look at the world today and often ask, “how do people do it?” How do they survive day by day without the loving presence of the Holy Spirit guiding them step by step; knowing that our path is being directed because we have submitted our minds, bodies and souls to Him?

I praise Him for loving me that much and that we still live in a nation where we can worship freely, praising Him daily for the blessings He has provided.

So no matter how bad we think this nation of ours is going down the tubes, the poor leadership we have elected and what appears to be completely insane laws that are being voted in, our God still reigns and it is His hand that governs the affairs of men.

The LORD hath done great things for us;
whereof we are glad.
