Prayer Changes Things

ray-gano-medI am living proof that prayer changes things.

Here is a fact. Prayer is our secret weapon, and we don’t use it enough. We will try everything else, but how often do we seriously pray? Prayer is frequently the last resort, the only thing left to do after we have exhausted all other options. But the first thing we actually should when adversity is baring down upon us to pray.

This is a lesson I know, but even I get caught up in things and forget to use our greatest weapon, that being prayer

As many of you know our life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

But I have to admit that there are times when the battles are getting pretty hot out there and all I am thinking about is that, the battle.

See, when we get in the devil’s playground, we will always get dirty. This is a fact. We think we can get in there in and give the devil his due, but a lot of times we come away licking our wounds.

The key is letting God fight the battles for you. This is a lesson I am learning right now.

But more about that later.

I wanted to let you guys know that we had miracle after miracle on our drive from Costa Rica to Panama.

We met up with a gentleman named Joel who helped use navigate all the border processes. I have to be honest, it if was left to just me, we would still be there, going crazy and who knows what else.

See, we had to go to this office and that office and oh, go to he agriculture office up the hill and around the corner. Then go pay this fee over there, that fee over here and yeah, go to the bank and pay these fees there.

We had to get ourselves, our car and our four dogs through all this red tape and paperwork.

But here is the great thing. It seemed like one thing lined up after another.

keep-calm-prayer-changes-things-1When we met up with Joel it was about 10:00 AM. When he was telling us all that we had to do he said that we may be there till 5:00 PM. Mainly due to getting pets into Panama. For some reason they are really hard on bringing in pets and make you jump through mountains of paperwork and TONS OF FEES.

See, back in Costa Rica it cost us $600 to get all the shots, proof of shots and then get all the shot paperwork and letters not only approved by Costa Rica, but by Panama as well.

I thought that all we had to do is show the paperwork and we would be done with it.

Nope. We had to go see this guy and that guy and get this stamp and that stamp.

But here is the amazing thing. You all were praying for us and it was amazing. Joel told us that for us to be doing the dogs, it was the worse time of the day, lunchtime. He was amazed that every single person was there that needed to help process the dogs were there. One guy even said that he waited for us knowing that we were coming.

Joel said things like that never happened. He has never seen anyone get through the border with a car, four dogs and two people as fast as we got through the border.

We were done by 1:00 PM.

Over and over again as we walked all over Paso Canoas and Joel kept saying that he could not believe that we were going this fast.

I told him that my wife and I have been praying like crazy and that I had a lot of my readers praying also.

He said “God is with you my friend. Today has been a miracle. I have never seen things go this well ever. You are a first.”

Just so you know, Joel has been guiding folks through the border now for 10 or so years.

So know this, that prayer does work and prayer changes things. We are living proof.

Ambushed By The Enemy

We read in Acts chapter 12 about King Herod and this guy is leading a new wave of persecution, and he thinks to himself “Hey let’s James, the brother of John.” So he did and being the consummate politician, Herod saw this pleased his constituents.

So what does Herod do next? He arrested the undisputed leader of the church, Peter. Pretty much everyone looked up to Peter because he was the spiritual leader, and it looked like Peter would be the next head on the chopping block.

So what did the church do? They unleashed their secret weapon…prayer.

Acts 12:5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

The church prayed without ceasing. When all seemed hopeless and all other doors closed, one door remained open, the door of prayer-the door into the presence of God. The church prayed, and everything changed.

Tracye and I have learned to ask for prayer pretty quickly. Like I said, it is really easy to get caught up in the battle and when one is having their real end kicked from one side of the field to the next, all of a sudden you remember “HEY… I need to pray.”

So when bad things are happening, don’t wait and let prayer be the last resort, learn to make it the first thing we do.

I say all this because when we moved here I was served up a plate full of anti Christian hatred from about 25 – 30 pagans, gays, militant feminists and complete left of center people.

These folks were waiting for me. The day we moved into our home they started plastering all over a local forum about how a “New self-proclaimed prophet has moved into town.” According to them I am one of those intolerant, gun toting, right wing Christian haters who just want to shove the bible down everyone’s throat the moment I meet them.

As you all know, I am not that sort of person. I don’t pull punches, but I am not a belligerent person that gets in people’s face and shouts them down. Sorry, I just don’t have time to waste on reprobates.

Here is just a small example of what I am having to deal with.

According to them, I am a scammer, freeloader and pan handler out to teach my horrible gun loving, dooms day prepping, totally intolerant ideas to the people of panama and shove my ideas down all of their throats.

Funny, that is exactly what they are doing to me, but from their ignorant left leaning world view.

This past weekend I sent out an email asking for prayer warriors to help me and keep us in prayer.

I need to let God handle this. No matter what I do or don’t do, it will not matter with these evil reprobates. All that matters in their mind is that I am shut up and I don’t speak about my Lord and savior to anyone.

I have asked folks to have lunch with me, get to know me, ask me any questions they might have.

Nope… not interested. They would rather tell all sorts of lies and such and drag my name through the dirt.

In all this people have been encouraging down here. I have had one dear friend send me the following verses..

Matthew 5:10-12 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole Armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole Armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

The same dear friend who sent us the scriptures also encouraged us with these words, which I do not think he would mind me sharing…

Brother, sometimes we forget … We are CALLED to this!  Jesus, in His first public recorded sermon speaks of what is happening to you now.  Jesus said, “REJOICE, AND BE EXCEEDING GLAD”

I’m praying for you.  I pray you will understand that you sir are in excellent company!

I’m praying for you and rejoicing because you have been counted worthy to be called by God to this battlefield!

STAND my brother!  STAND!

I have been writing about being the servant warrior, well my metal is going to be tested again through all this. I expect some wounds, hurt feelings and all the other things that go along with it, but when all is said and done I want people to see that Christ is our savior and the victor and that maybe someone here will see Christ in us and because of that, choose Christ instead of choosing the world.

Pray that we remain strong, positive, good hearted, forgiving, and that we become a positive light in the community. Pray that God protects us and that the truth will always rise to the surface.

God sent us here for a reason and we know it.

Thanks for your continued prayers and know that YOUR PRAYERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Prayer does in fact change things and I know that through all of these minor hiccups in life, we will continue to stand for Him and not back down. We know that we are here for reason and that God is moving more and more Christians into Boquete Panama.

We had the great opportunity to go to church this past Sunday and it was a breath of fresh air. As you may remember, we did not have a church family when we lived in Costa Rica. But the church we attended this past Sunday was pretty great. Wonderful worship, nice expository teaching and the nice thing is that they are starting to go through the book of Acts. So we are coming at a good time.

Over all life is good and we are excited to be here and to see all that God has in store for us here in Boquete.

I will try not to let the bozo’s get me down and I will work even harder at being the positive witness for Christ that we are called to do and remain being that servant warrior.

So come on down and visit us, we would love to show you our wonderful new home. It is as close to the Garden of Eden as we can get, and yep, we got 20 – 30 snakes down here too boot just to keep us on our toes.

And having done all, To Stand!
